I’ve been running workshops in composing and songwriting since I trained at Goldsmiths College in 1993. I’ve worked with schools, theatres and all sorts of arts organisations, including running courses and projects for The Royal Opera House, The Roundhouse, the BBC and many, many others. I particularly specialize in getting kids writing songs and music and I also run INSET sessions to help give teachers ideas for working in these areas.
I've written a lot of songs for children's voices; some are published by A and C Black and Faber (for Sing Up). I've also helped many children and young people write songs of their own.
I am currently the music specialist at Yerbury Primary School

Comments on INSET sessions training teachers in ways of teaching composition and songwriting
‘The course was energising, relaxing and inspiring. Superb’
Yr 3 teacher St Joseph’s primary school
'What a fantastic session which was both useful and enjoyable. I learnt ways to use music to engage pupils, allow them to use their creativity, have fun but most importantly learn in a new and positive way. Wow, it’s just opened up my mind. Thank you.’
Ammara Khan, Yr 4 teacher Gatton Primary School.
Comments from theatres and arts organisations I have worked for
'I've worked with Ben Glasstone on a number of very different projects over several years, at Hampstead Theatre since 2006, and before that at the Lyric Hammersmith. Whatever the age, ability or needs of the participants he's working with, Ben makes music, singing, lyric and song writing immediately accessible, playful and inspiring. In ways which spring directly from his own vision, practice and experience as a musican and composer. Charismatic and charming, too, he's a real presence in the room and an asset to any community arts project.'
Creative Learning Director, Hampstead Theatre
‘Ben Glasstone is a respected colleague of both the Unicorn’s Artistic and Education programmes. He has worked with the Education team on a range of projects; in formal and informal settings and with a range of young people of different ages. His work is always inclusive, inspiring and above all, places the young person at the heart of the work.’
Youth Programme Manager, Unicorn Theatre
'Ben's improvisatory skills encourage even our most severely disabled clients to participate in workshops. His music invites people to explore worlds of imagination and creativity where they can discover new ways to express themselves through music and dance. I have no doubt his music has helped to change the lives of people with learning disabilities.'
